uptill now

we put some more scaffolding up for the roofers to work on top. it is a required process by the nz safety. this is to ensure the people going up do not fall off the building. the house was given to them for two days to lay down the self sopporting under lay(bitumous paper) this is layed over all the purlins an strectched so it was straight over the purlin, making sure there are no sags.after that the congregated iron is put over top of the underlay and screwed . one over laping the over. the roofer also put up the fascias an gutter..

back onsite. we took down the scafolding and did abit of house keeping. the weather boards were sent so we could paint them with four coatings. the weather boards are painted on both sides. as this went on we used the building wrap to wrap the whole house. this is used for extra insulation and protection.  the paper is stuck on with the staple gun it is pulled tight so it doesnt have any sags. blue strap also went on between the 1 above every nog spacing having a total of 3 at each stud with nogs between.

roof an ceiling batten summary

after the walls are set up. The trusses are stacked up on top of the walls from the beginning to the end, this is set up like this so that it is easier to stand up like a domino affect, CAPTION: Marty walking across confirming the stableness an strength of the trusses
once the trusses are all up they are braced in the middle to keep them standing so we can space them out at 845mm apart.The trusses are nailed down into the top plate CAPTION: Trusses braced an spaced




because timber is not always straight the trusses at the end are braced just like walls to get that flat edge, nails are nailed into to prevent movement an nail plates are use to connect the trusses with the top plate CAPTION:Clamp being used to keep the truss from moving out of place

metal braces are used to hold a tension between trusses to prevent movement. This is similar to wall bracing, block tensioners are used on the metal strip
once trusses are accurately placed purlins are put on actin as the final brace an also the layer for the roofing to be nailed to,the purlin are nailed in with 90mm galv FH. Z nails are used connecting pulins to the trusses

ceiling battens are nailed to the trusses with 75mm nails galv FH made up joist is shot through the middle of the lounge to hold up the ceiling battens to prevent it from breaking. Ceiling batten are spaced at 400m. string lines are used to help find the straightness.

lintel supported by jack stud to hold the lintel. Triple stud is used because of the length of the lintel. Amount of studs change depending on the length of the lintel.

wall is braced with the metal brace for strength.two nails go in the nogs and three in the studs

truck dropoped off all the walls and the material of the wall to be built,followed the plan the manufactures sent and stood each wall on the number that was shown in the specs.we set up string line all arounud after that was done an alligned all the walls up an nailed them into the floor board. we then did the same to the of the walls we used log braces of 90x45 an nailed tmen to the ground when the top of the frame was straighter. som nogs were removed from the factory made frames because they were makin the stud not straight,they wer cut for a better fit.

old fasion house with a different bracing style. studs an nogs were cut to fit the diagonal brace inside.Studs were nailed in at 600mm centers

the top of the original shower, mouldy from the badd shower an moisture cloggin up in the causing mould

brick laying for the outside anwood frame inside fill with pink batts to prevent the damp moisture coming through

sealed of taps after removing sink. turn off water pipe infront of teh house. double nogs for the sink to mount to.

floor



started off with the normal tool box talk discussing safety issues, then had to install girt cleats which held the joist and bearers together as seen in the picture to the left. After that we layed owt some sisalation foil for the insulation under the floor boards we the stable gun to hold the foil down an carefully spaced out the foil so it sagged into the gaps allowing for any wet liquid will slide an go through the wholes in the foil, after the foil was laid out, we nailed the floorboards down(particle board) an used decking nails to keep it in place, we then continued the same process till the end of class :)

today an yesterday

yesterday -finished off the nogging using 190x45 msg8 timber,shot a stringline from one end to the other end so we could nog in a straight line.wee den used the clamps so it tighten the the grip between the joist so we could put a nog in with out having gaps in between. started helping the others by cutting nogs for them, most of my cuts were good..jus was given wrong measurements so i swaped around with micheal to take down the measurement, then marty told us to move the bearer cause it was off so we used the sabre saw to cut the nails from the joist an bearer,we then cut five more post to go dwn as piles to replace the wuns on the sole plate.the bearer moving was a success,
today -carried on from yesterday with the nogging,marty told me o fix up the straightness of the timber that some of the boys did,so i used my dougy to pull out the nails.after that i used some wedges to bringing upp the timer so it was leveled with the plate covering the subfloor,after that i planed down the wuns overlapping the edge.after that i helped owt richards side an fixed all there mistakes :)

back to work

worked with a couple of the boys on the house we organised the diffent type of treated timber like H3.2 an H1.2...these types of treated timber act to prevent the timber frm being rotted out.we placed the green timber H3.2 in the wet areas of the house example kitchen, bathroom an toilets..

after the previous day of cleaning up we got straight into today. the work load was shared for abit till team Marty suddenly changed our working pace from profiling to laminating and putting our bearers up. kept learning new stuff an occasionally shared some knowledge to the boys about skilled saws an drop saws. day was good cant wait to finsh the house.
